Why
The End-time Church Lacks Power
Texts: Romans_15:19 John 4:48
Romans 15:19
19 Through mighty signs and wonders,
by the power of the Spirit of God; so that from Jerusalem, and round about unto
Illyricum, I have fully preached the gospel of Christ.
John 4:48
48 Then said Jesus unto him, Except ye see signs and wonders, ye will not
believe.
Introduction
In Part 1 of this teaching, a story
was told of two young preachers who went at different times to preach the Gospel
to the people of their Islamic native town. The difference between the
different degrees of success acquired by each of them was based on the amount
of the Power of The Holy Ghost each was able to display.
The body of the message was divided into
three segments. They are the followings.
-1. The significance of power in a
Christian race.
-2. Why the end-time church should carry
the greatest power.
-3. And the last segment was ‘Why the
end-time church lacks power’.
The first and second segments have been
treated in the part one of this teaching. Please, read carefully and you will
discover the reason of the powerlessness of this end-time church and what you
should do if you want the Power of God in your life.
Power Belongs To God.
There are so many things the scripture says
about the Power of God. They are all worthy to note, but I will mention just
two of them because they are especially related to this topic. The two things
are mentioned below.
-1. Power belongs to God.
Psalm 62:11
11 God hath spoken once; twice have I heard this; that power belongeth unto
God.
All power
belongs to God. All power that ever existed and are still in existence are from
God and will ever be in existence. His power is the absolute power.
-2. God gives Power to whoever He wants.
1 Let every soul
be subject unto the higher powers. For there is no power but of God: the
powers that be are ordained of God.
This scripture also reiterates the first
point mentioned above that Power belongs to God. However, it goes a step
further to say that all those ‘whoever have powers’ have their powers given to
them from God – including satan and all the forces of darkness.
It is however important to stress that,
though satan’s power were also given him
from God, his powers and those of his agents have now become corrupt and not
useful for any good purpose again, but for evil because they have turned away
from and rebelled against God, from all good things come from, who gave them
the powers.
James 1:17
17 Every good gift and every
perfect gift is from above, and cometh down from the Father of lights, with whom is no
variableness, neither shadow of turning.
Since satan has been cut off from God, the
Giver of power, the One who sustains every good and perfect gifts, the power
that satan had already received prior to his casting down then became
automatically corrupt and evil. If you took away light, what you will have is
darkness. Satan’s lights have now become darkness.
-3. The enemy submits to greater power, ONLY.
Psalm 66:3
3 Say unto God, How terrible art thou in thy
works! through the greatness of thy power shall thine enemies submit themselves
unto thee.
Unless and until a greater power is
encountered, the smaller power will
Not submit. This is the principle of deliverance. A demon that
possess
a person will not leave him until he
encounters the greater power of
God. A person that is hardened in sin will
not stop until he encounters
the greater power of salvation and so
on.
Why God Gives Power.
The
only reason why God gives power to
His servants is just to back up His Word or to just fulfill His purpose. Let us
look at some examples from the bible.
-1. God gave power to Moses to back up the Word He gave to him.
Exodus 3:14
14 And God said unto Moses, I AM THAT I AM:
and he said, Thus shalt
thou say unto the children of Israel, I AM hath sent me
unto you.
In the scripture above, God asked Moses to
go and tell the elders of Israel and by extension, Pharaoh, that Pharaoh should
let God’s people go. In exodus 4:1-3, Moses complained to God that the people
will not believe that God hath sent Him and because God wanted people to
believe that He sent Moses, He gave power to Moses. Let us read a little of the
scripture.
Exodus 4:1-7
1 And
Moses answered and said, But, behold, they will not believe me, nor hearken unto my
voice: for they will say, The LORD hath not appeared unto thee.
2 And
the LORD said unto him, What is that in thine hand? And he
said, A rod.
3 And
he said, Cast it on the ground. And he cast it on the ground, and it became a
serpent; and Moses fled from before it.
4 And
the LORD said unto Moses, Put forth thine hand, and take it by the tail. And he
put forth his hand, and caught it, and it became a rod in his hand:
5 That
they may believe that the LORD God of their fathers, the God of Abraham, the
God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob, hath appeared unto thee.
6 And
the LORD said furthermore unto him, Put now thine hand into thy bosom. And he
put his hand into his bosom: and when he took it out, behold, his hand was leprous
as snow.
7 And
he said, Put thine hand into thy bosom again. And he put his hand into his
bosom again; and plucked it out of his bosom, and, behold, it was turned again
as his other flesh.
8 And
it shall come to pass, if they will not believe thee, neither hearken to the
voice of the first sign, that they will believe the voice of the latter
sign.
9 And
it shall come to pass, if they will not believe also these two signs,
neither hearken unto thy voice, that thou shalt take of the water of the river,
and pour it upon the dryland: and the water which thou
takest out of the river shall become blood upon the dry land.
The
summary of the two scriptures above was that God appeared to Moses and gave His
Word to Moses to deliver God’s people from Pharaoh. Moses feared that his
own people would not believe him and because of that, God gave Moses three
categories of power to make them believe.
Can you see the sequence? God
gave power to back up the Word He gave to Moses so that the people can believe.
This scenario directly corroborated the Word of the Lord, Jesus Christ in the
New Testament which was in John 4:48
John
4:48
48 Then said Jesus unto him, Except ye see signs and wonders, ye will not believe.
Once again, God gave signs,
wonders and powers to make people believe His Word.
-2. God gave Elijah power to call down fire to back up His Word.
1 kings 18:36-39
36 And it came to pass at the time of the
offering of the evening sacrifice, that Elijah the prophet
came near, and said, LORD God of Abraham, Isaac, and of Israel, let it
be known this day that thou art God in Israel, and that I am thy
servant, and that I have done all these things at thy word.
37 Hear
me, O LORD, hear me, that this people may know that thou art the
LORD God, and that thou hast turned their heart back again.
38 Then
the fire of the LORD fell, and consumed the burnt sacrifice, and the wood,
and the stones, and the dust, and licked up the water that was in
the trench.
39 And
when all the people saw it, they fell on their faces: and they
said, The LORD, he is the God; the LORD, he is the
God.
Through the witchcraft of
Jezebel, Israelites had gone after baal and God had given His Word to
Elijah to go and turn them back to God. However, the Israelites would not
believe that God had told Elijah to do so unless Elijah defeated the prophets
of baal. However, God wanted the Israelites to believe all the things Elijah
had said were the Words of God, and so He gave Elijah power to call down
fire.
Can you see the trend again? Because
God wanted to defend His Word, He gave power to Elijah to call down fire.
-3. The Lord was with the disciples to back up the gospel
Mark
16:15, 20
15 And he said unto
them, Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature.
.
20 And
they went forth, and preached every where, the Lord working with them,
and confirming the word
with signs following. Amen.
Can you see the trend again? Because the
Lord wanted the people to believe His Word, the gospel that the disciples
preached, He gave them power to do signs and wonders.
-4. Phillip was tele-transported because of the Word of God.
Acts
8:39-40
39 And when they were come up out of the water, the Spirit of the Lord
caught away Philip, that the eunuch saw him no more: and he went on his way
rejoicing.
40 But
Philip was found at Azotus: and passing through he preached in all
the cities, till he came to Caesarea.
Phillip the evangelist just preached the
Word of God to the Ethiopian eunuch. He believed the Gospel and was baptized.
Immediately, the baptism was concluded, the Spirit of the Lord carried Phillip
from Gaza to Azotus, a distance of about 50km, to go and preach to another
people in waiting.
Can you see the trend again? The Spirit of
God physically carried Phillip from Gaza to Azotus because of the Word of God
that Phillip needed to preach.
-5. Power will be given to The Two witnesses to prophesy the
Word of God.
Acts
11:3-73
3 I will give power unto my two
witnesses, and they shall prophesy a thousand two hundred and threescore
days, clothed in sackcloth.
4 These
are the two olive trees, and the two candlesticks standing before the God of
the earth.
5 And
if any man will hurt them, fire proceedeth out of their mouth, and devoureth
their enemies: and if any man will hurt them, he must in this manner be killed.
6 These
have power to shut
heaven, that it rain not in the days of their prophecy: and have power over waters to
turn them to blood, and to smite the earth with all plagues, as often as they
will.
7 And
when they shall have finished their testimony, the beast that ascendeth out of the
bottomless pit shall make war against them, and shall overcome them, and kill
them.
Can you spot the trend, still? By now, it
should be obvious.
Summary
This is the summary. Because the Word of
God is at stake, God releases power to His servants to back up His Word. God
will not give power for any other purpose. God is not a magician! He will not
demonstrate His powers unless His Word or His Purpose is at stake. Only
magicians demonstrate their magics to entertain people.
Remember! The Lord, Jesus Christ did not
turn the stone to bread to eat when satan tempted Him to do so because the
power was not for showmanship. It was for a purpose. However, when the multitude
that came to hear the Word from were hungry, He multiplied the bread and the
fish for them. The difference here was that the WORD of God was at stake.

Actions
Are you an elect of Christ? Are you truly
saved? Are you on the narrow road? Do you want to make the rapture/heaven? If
your answers are yes, then,
• Make all efforts to heed the warnings of Jesus Christ.
• Make all efforts to heed the warnings of Jesus Christ.
• Be watchful. Pay attention to what is
happening around the World and see whether they match what the scriptures say.
• Be filled with the Holy Spirit and be in
the Spirit all the time.
• Fast, consecrate yourself, run away from
sin and worldliness.
If your answers are NO, then you can repent
today. Accept Jesus Christ as your Lord and Saviour. Kindly sincerely and
faithfully pray the prayer of repentance below and make a determination never
to commit sin again.
Prayer Of Repentance
Lord, Jesus Christ, I am sorry
for all my sins. I confess them with my mouth and I ask for mercy. Please
forgive me and wash me in your blood. I accept you as my personal Lord and
Saviour. Write my name in the book of life. Give me power over sins and fill me
with your Spirit and Joy of Salvation. When rapture trumpet sounds, let me make
it. Thank you for saving me. In Jesus name, I pray.
Begin to read bible. Begin with the book of
John. Pray always. Fast regularly (you can begin with once in a week). Look for
a bible believing church where they teach repentance, holiness, salvation and
fellowship with them. Pray before you go. Always run away from SINS.
